iPhone impressions
About two weeks ago Steve Jobs announced that there was going to he a $200 drop in the price of the 8 gigabyte iPhone, and that the 4gig phone was history. What he failed to mention was that the remaining stock of 4 gig phones was also discounted to a reasonable $299. With my current phone in need of a desperate upgrade I thought this was the perfect time to upgrade. So last Friday my iphone was delivered. During the last few days that I have been using the phone I have come to find things really useful about it, and some that I dont.
First what I like about the phone. I wont bore you with the common features that people like but i would like to talk about the keyboard. I originally had my doubts about a touch screen keyboard, but have to say that they did a damn fine job with it, granted i never really thumb typed with a standard celphone keyboard before so i cant say that this is superior to those. What I can say is that it has been surprising how fast I comfortably I can type on it. Infact this post is being typed on via the iphone. I like the ability to rotate the screen, but i wish it was available to more applications.
Some of the things that I don't like about it are more bugs than anything else. I hope that some of these things get sorted out in future versions of the firmware. For instance there are frequent crashes of both the music player and safari when they are both being used together. Other things that are a problem are sometime slow response to input especially when typeing fast and the slow loading of webpages even with wifi enabled. There is also some signal reliability issues that make me question if there is an issue with the antenna.
Despite its flaws I think it one of the best phones out there.
